Some of the plants we work with:
Plant Name: Abuta
Latin Name: Cissampelos Pareira
The commonly known medical uses of Abuta are mostly limited to the cure of discharges from the urino-genital membrane. It is a treatment for sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrea, syphilis, chlamydia and leucorrhoea. But Abuta is useful for so much more! Of its 38 alkaloids it is known to contain one called tetrandrine which has pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancerous and fever reducing properties.
Another well-known alkaloid contained is berbine. This chemical has been used for the treatment of irregular heartbeat, cancer, candida, diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome. It prevents miscarriage, relieves heavy menstrual bleeding and stops uterine hemorrhages after childbirth. Other uses include; reduction of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), excessive bleeding and fibroid tumors, maintainance of hormonal balance, a diuretic and expectorant.

Plant Name: Ajos Sacha
Latin Name: mansoa alliacea
Ajos Sacha contains several of the main sulfer compounds that garlic does. It is these compounds which are responsible for the garlic-like odor and taste. These compounds can make up more than 50% of the total compounds in the leaves. They have been well studied and some even turned into pharmacueticals.
The compounds have been documented to kill bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and cancer cells, lower blood pressure, lower colesterol, reduce inflammation, reduce blood clots, and counter aterosclerosis. Ajos Sacha is also a good source of another well-known natural compound called ursolic acid. This chemical has been documented with cellular protective actions (lungs, kidneys, liver and brain), an anabolic effect on skeletal muscles and the ability to suppress bone density loss leading to osteoporosis.

Plant Name: Bobinsana
Latin Name: calliandra angustifolia spruce
The exact chemical composition of the plant is still unknown. However, available sources indicate that bobinsana is rich in amino acids, flavanoids and tannins. It also contains the unique harmala alkaloid tetrahydroharmine, affecting the nervous system. Unlike other harmala alkaloids, it has certain specifics-it does not cloud the mind and does not create a hypnotic state.
On the contrary, the mind sharpens and stimulates. Bobinsana acta as a MAO inhibitor so it increases serotonin levels in the brain and serves as an anti-depressant. Bobinsana is anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, anti-cancerous, anti- rheumatic, a stimulant and a diuretic. The strength of its purported contraceptive properties warrant caution.

Plant Name: Chuchuhuasi
Latin Name: maytenus krukovii
Chuchuhuasi is a powerhouse of plant chemicals-mostly triterpenes, flavonols and sesquiterpene alkaloids. It is super high in its content of alkaloids which are considered to be active constituents of the plant. Extracts of the bark of M. krukovii are
antioxidant and somewhat antimutagenic.
Chuchuhuasi reduces inflammation, kills cancer cells, relieves pain, relaxes muscles, stimulates digestion and prevents tumors. It supports adrenals therefore stimulates menstruation, increases libido and enhances the immune system. It is well known for the treatment of arthritis and rheumatism.

Plant Name: Huanarpo macho
Huanarpo macho contains sapogenins, steroids, flavonoids, ethereal oils and alkaloids. They are reported to prevent skin aging and heart diseases as well. The high amount of these compounds is in agreement with its traditional use as an aphrodisiac.
Huanarpo macho can block alpha-adreno receptors which reduce the effect of hormones that cause vasoconstriction of blood vessels in penile tissues and augment the production of norepinephrine which is essential in maintaining erectile function. In addition to its sexual enhancement properties, huanarpo macho is also anti-convulsive, anti-diabetic, anti-bronchial and anti-ulcerous. Huanarpo macho is being exported worldwide as a replacement for Viagra. It is used to restore male sexual potency, prevent premature ejaculation, correct erectile dysfunction and as a general male sexual tonic.

Plant Name: Tamamuri
Latin Name: brosimum acutifolium
Its broad-based use in many areas of health problems make it a medicine currently undergoing much research by western herbologists as a little known “miracle” medicine . Its bark contains flavins, flavonoids, ligans, phenylpropanoids, benezoids and steroids. Many of these chemicals are novel ones never before seen by scientists.
Two of the compounds in the root have the ability to inhibit protein kinase, a compound in the body that is involved with various conditions and is one of the chemicals that the body uses to actually produce inflammation. People with autoimmune disorders, arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, usually have elevated protein kinase levels. The bark has shown antibacterial actions against common bacteria, including bacillus, staphylococcus, helicobacter pylori and candida albicans.

Plant Name: Uña de Gato (cat's claw)
Latin Name: uncaria tormentosa
Scientists have found that specific phytochemicals in uña de gato (proanlhocyanidins) had an inhibitory effect on the formation of both beta-amyloid plaques and tau protein “tangles”, a primary cause of Alzheimer’s Disease. This finding is a potential breakthrough for the natural treatment of both normal brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease.
In addition, uña de gato stimulates the immune system, helps relax the smooth muscles (such as the intestines), dilates blood vessels {helping lower blood pressure), and acts as a diuretic (helping the body to eliminate excess water). It also has antioxldant properties, helping the body eliminate particles known as free radicals that damage cells. Free radicals contribute to health problems, including heart disease and cancer. Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals and may reduce, or even help prevent, some of the damage they cause.
